I had installed Kororaa onto my computer (erasing Ubuntu in the process, though) in the hope I could solve my NVIDIA problem.
I noticed that it had never actually crashed on my computer even when doing all the cool XGL effects. I went and installed it and spent a few hours figuring out how to change the X server from Xgl to Xorg.
Unfortunately, within 15 minutes of using Xorg as my server things started segfaulting as usual and the computer eventually locked up.
So, Ubuntu’s back on. Dad wanted me just to run the computer to its limit by just using the 2D nv driver just to make sure that’s the problem.
The funny thing is, all 3D acceleration is perfectly stable on Windows. I can have my system literally running for weeks (albeit using Standby and Hibernate) and not have a single crash. Well…Explorer crashes every now and then so I log off and log on but as any Windows user would know this is unrelated to and hardware problem
. On Ubuntu logging off and on worsens the problem and half my panel applets segfault the second time round.
